Science

Science at Sawston Village College is organised as a single faculty which incorporates the individual sciences of Biology, Physics and Chemistry. While we believe it is crucially important to establish and maintain the basic philosophy of science as a process of observation and experimentation, it is also important to acknowledge the identity of the individual disciplines. In this way we can enhance the breadth of experience available to our pupils. We aim to:

  • Provide a stimulating, coherent and co-ordinated curriculum for all our pupils.
  • Enable all pupils to develop the full range of their abilities by providing a supportive and constructive learning environment.
  • Encourage all pupils to develop their practical skills to the full, thus enabling them to enjoy the extensive resources of the science faculty for planning and executing investigations, analysing data and evaluating outcomes. Furthermore, to use their skills and knowledge to solve problems imaginatively and scientifically.
  • Gain an appreciation of Science in everyday life and its application in the fields of industry, research and the ever expanding world of technology.
